I've been shooting a bow since I was 8 years old. Was given a recurve back then and just couldn't put it away. At the age of 10 I started hunting with my compound bow and have been hooked ever since.

Chasing elk is my favorite but a very close 2nd is hunting blacktail deer. I've hunted all the country and can't wait to get back out each fall for the rut frenzy!!

Kari Hirschberger

My name is Kari Hirschberger, and I hail from the land of desert pines and granite peaks of central Washington. I spend my days either fighting fire or exploring the forgotten spaces in our natural world. I was raised with the full knowledge and respect that accompanied knowing where my meals originated, and was honored and excited to contribute to the food my family consumed at a young age. Backcountry mule deer is my absolute specialty and holds the largest place in my heart, but I gladly pursue big game, grouse, turkeys, predators, sheds, fish and forage anywhere I find opportunity. I’m particularly thrilled to join the Crazy Elk Company family with their values centered around love of our wild spaces and sharing that passion with those who matter most. Hunting and outdoor recreation has always been a place of solace and healing when the need was greatest, and I hope each and every one of you is able to experience joy in the wild places and pass on those pursuits to those around you. Here’s to each day spent wearing the tread off your boots!

The question, "Why do you hunt?" is not an easy question to answer and I've often asked myself that question. This is the best way that I can describe it: It brings me closer to nature and the maker in a way that I cannot fully explain. For me, it's not about the kill, it's about the whole experience. The fresh mountain air blowing through the trees. The wide array of animals going about their day. The anticipation of what's over the next ridge. The work it takes to be successful and the feeling of gratitude and appreciation of the animal that you harvest. What I enjoy the most is getting to share that animal with my family around the dinner table throughout the year. I feel that it is important to have a connection with your food and hunting provides that connection in the most natural way possible.

Elizabeth Jones

Hey there, my name is Elizabeth. I did not grow up hunting, in fact I am the only one in my family who does, and they think I'm mildly insane for doing the things that I do. I fell into hunting roughly 6 years ago and had no idea it would quickly become an obsession. The outdoors has always been my happy place but as my horse aged and was unable to tackle the mountains like we had in years prior this seemed like a great way to get out there. From the moment I shot my first doe, late season archery in the snow, I was hooked. A large majority of the time for me is spent solo public land archery hunting for deer and elk and I live for the grind required to be successful. And boy, is it humbling. There's a wealth of knowledge to be obtained from the woods, and I love that I am constantly learning. I look forward to more adventures, exploring new country and pushing myself farther than I ever would have imagined both physically and mentally.

When I was 15, I killed my first Muley buck with my bow. It was then that I realized how much of a privilege it is to take the life of an animal to help provide for my family and friends. Over the years, I have learned just how much hunting truly has to offer. From the beautiful scenery, to the hunting buddies, to the escape from society, to the incredible experiences that some will never understand. Hunting is able to provide all those things and so, so much more.

Why I hunt? I hunt because I have to. There is no other option. Everything I do in life revolves around that special time of year. It’s a part of me and always will be. The joy and challenge of being in the field in pursuit of game that fills our freezer with the best meat on earth, year after year keeps me going. Passing the tradition and skills down to my children and seeing them succeed takes it to the next level for me. There is no better feeling. The passion runs deep in my veins, It is who I am.

Over the years I’ve hunted the reasons behind my love for the sport has changed from simply just enjoying the outdoors and the thrill of the sport to why it’s so important to me today and will continue to be for the rest of my life. Hunting is a way for me to stay close to the father figures I’ve lost in my life. From a young age I was always out in the woods with either my father, my uncle or my grandfather. They showed me what it takes to be a true outdoorsman and instilled a passion for the love of the hunt and the outdoors in me. Since each of their passings I know the time in my life when I will be closest to them again is out there on the hillside glassing for that giant buck or that monster elk that would make them say “Shoot that sucker!

Madi Andresen

My name is Madi Andresen. Hunting has been a big part of my life since I was a little girl. I grew up hunting the Oregon Coast Range with my dad and younger brother and tagged along on my dad’s hunts until I was old enough to draw my own tags. I’ve always enjoyed hunting, however, as I’ve gotten older and the topic grows more controversial, I’ve really found my “why”. For me, I love the challenge of hunting, the hardships, the way it makes you question yourself and forces you to dig deep at times. I love the camaraderie and how it brings together the ones I enjoy spending time with most, and most of all I love knowing exactly where my food comes from. There’s no better reward, in my eyes, than filling the freezer and providing fresh meat to sustain my family for the year. Hunting isn’t just part of my life, it’s a way of life and it’s shaped me into the person I am today.
